So, the all important world cup qualifiers was played in Abuja today, the capital city of Nigeria. However, it took place a day after an attack on a Kaduna bound train which had 362 passengers on board with 8 bodies recovered and 26 persons injured as at the time of this post.

What baffles me is how we’ve come to normalize living with terrorists, with some news agencies referring to them bandits, gunmen and every other name apart from terrorists. What’s even more baffling is the fact that as a nation we are so quick to move on. When the news broke yesterday, one would think the whole nation would take to the streets in “holy anger” about the state of security in the nation, but NO, “we mueve”! 🤷🏾‍♂️

Thousands of persons gathered at the stadium to watch the match. Millions more watched from their homes and viewing centers. The government authorised civil servants to close early in order to give support to the national team, Yes! Analysts and news agencies broadcasted and analyzed the performance of both teams and even the footballers played their hearts out. How are we able to even play football, less than 24 hours after a national disaster? 😭😭

In the words of Aśa, there’s fire on the mountain and nobody seems to be on the run. Fire in Nigeria and indeed in Africa. Where is our humanity? Are we even living? Because even animals mourn loved ones, but for us it is normal. After all my blood relative didn’t die. But brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, husbands, wives and children died. Children of our dear country. Our brothers, our sisters our kinsmen. Oh how we’ve lost it. And we still pray to ‘god’ to bless us and bless our land.

We must repent! Except we repent, there’s no change in sight.
